True Selenite is part of the Gypsum family. It is actually transparent, colorless and isn't as easily found as Satin Spar. High quality, transparent crystals come from Mexico as noted by Ashley Leavy in her Crystals for Energy Healing book.
According toMindat.org: The name 'selenite' is mostly synonymous with gypsum but has been used historically to describe the transparent variety, as opposed to satin spar gypsum for the fibrous variety and alabaster for the fine-grained massive form.
